The Observer

Screen Shot 2018-05-02 at 1.43.32 PMI began writing for the The Observer in the spring of 2018 while enrolled in The Digital Newsroom – a course taught by Professor Richard Jones and Professor Victoria St. Martin. Over the course of the semester, I had the opportunity to tote my laptop and camera to events for the the News, Scene, and Sports sections, all while witnessing the magic behind a student-run, daily newspaper.

For one of these various assignments, I reached out to David Kinney, a Notre Dame grad and Observer alum, to chat about his experience as a student journalist.

“When there were issues that came up, you’re almost not a student anymore. You’re almost like an outsider going to the administration, trying to get answers,” Kinney said of his four year experience.

Though I am new to the paper, Kinney’s sentiments perfectly articulate my experiences thus far.

I am looking forward to another year of writing for such a phenomenal student-run paper!

As for now, please enjoy my previous work.
